What an Effing Disaster

I'm appalled and speechless by the election results.

Me too! Hopefully we're wrong, but doubtful.

Wow. Do you want to elaborate at all? I was surprised, disappointed even, but appalled is a strong word.

I can elaborate for him - The new mayor espouses running the city, "like a business" - and from everything I've heard, his mantra is effectively anti-city, and yet he's now been placed in charge of a fast-growing southwestern city that sits on precarious ground with regard to water resources. The guy is a prop for development groups like SunCal, who advocate for building in areas we have no right to build. He just doesn't seem to have a firm grasp of how a city runs, and how a city like ABQ can move into more sustainable growth patterns. I would say "Disaster" is an accurate way of describing the situation, especially with Ken Lewis now in Cadigan's former spot on the West side. But don't worry, I'll be watching this guy like a hawk for a next 4 years, hoping he doesn't send ABQ back into obscurity. Tis truly a shame...

I too have some concerns but I'm going to take a wait and see approach. It took a rabid anti-communist like Nixon to open up China. What if Berry was the mayor who got the Events Center done?

Ian pretty much summed it up for me. I know that Berry is an intelligent man, I'm just not sure he's up to snuff on some of the issues. Green issues in particular. I'm ok with growth, I'd just like it to be smart, planned growth.

The SunCal-backed new councilor on the westside scares the crap out of me even more.

The sum of the parts (mayor plus council) are starting to smell funny...

...but right now, I'm flipping livid about these student dorms planned for the middle of nowhere. Please tell me someone is going to stop this. How can the regents be so deliberate and dense??!!

Anyone see Weeden's opinion piece in the Journal about the event center? Beautifully written
