The corner of Lomas and Broadway now includes a gas station, drive through restaurants, and a dirt detention pond with surrounding chain link fence. How's that for a gateway into our revitalizing downtown? *shakes head*
Michael, it's the correct story. I was pointing out that while this pond serves a purpose, the execution was myopic in that it's merely functional and lends zero in the form of a people-friendly environment. The city could have used that land to sell to developers to put in some urban housing and retail and built the pond to resemble something much, MUCH more attractive than what it really is. Form AND function need to not be mutually exclusive.
Yeah, big wasted opportunity. Even if they'd set it up to do double duty as a park (like the one in Barelas, or by Highland High, or etc..) at least the city'd have something to show for it.
