More Downtown Housing

This is terrific and surprising news. A new 72-unit mixed-income, 4+ story mixed-use building on Lomas and 2nd. Nice! With the new brewery a few blocks north, redevelopment of the Plaza Maya, and now this, perhaps this will be the foundation for new life on downtown's north end. All we need now is for a developer to coin the area a catchy four letter word like NoDo, NoLo, etc. Then we'll be on our way.

I always thought 1st Street, north of the Convention Center, would make an awesome main street neightborhood with retail and entertainment.

Looks great, thanks for the news! I agree about 1st Street, there's a large area where they're clearly doing nothing with it and there's (obviously) a lot more that could be done.

Have you been reading about the failed condo development in Silver Hill here in ABQ? It's been a pretty polarizing issue... some think that a high-density, LEED-certified infill development is EXACTLY what this city needs more of (myself included), others derided it as too large with too many units and insufficient parking. City Council struck it down by one vote :(

I did read about that development and I agree with you, I'm all for more density in all inner city neighborhoods - ok, maybe not the cool victorian neighborhood in edo or one of the barios, BUT, every other inner city neighborhood needs density. Four stories is nothing, I hope the city council overrules the decision.

Saw this article:

and thought of you. Wondering if you've read it yet (do you still have a subscription out in TX or do you just keep track on the web, or what? You're always remarkably more well-informed about what's happening in ABQ than I am, and I live here!) and what you thought.

Also, there's a write up on Duke City Fix that I'm sure you've seen, but there's some semi-interesting comments. Here's the link, just in case you missed it:

Thanks for the links, Michael! Here's hoping this plan gains momentum and they actually come up with something cool.
