Development has really been in the areas of bars, restaurants, and overpriced housing. Retail and higher-income business have always avoided the area. Personally having lived in Albuquerque 16 years, I would like to see no more money spent on downtown as I think it is a lost cause, it hasn't returned the revenue for the amount of money that has been put in to it. Downtown projects are a very emotional debate, but in Albuquerque the downtown probably hasn't been the hub of the city for many many many years.
